Last weekend I traveled to LA to visit my friend Tricia for her 30th birthday!  My other friend Jess flew out from D.C., so we were united for the weekend!  Tricia and I have been friends since we were 12 years old and I’ve known Jess for almost 10 years.  They will be two of my bridesmaids in my wedding in June.  🙂  We had such an awesome weekend!  The weather was perfect and in the high 70’s and low 80’s the entire weekend.  Coming back to 30-degree weather was really hard.

I got to LA Friday evening and we went to the Magic Castle in West Hollywood.  The Magic Castle looks like Disney’s Haunted Mansion and is a nightclub for magicians.  It’s also the clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts and you have to be a member or know a member to be invited inside.  Luckily one of Tricia’s friends is a member so we got to go.  I’m probably not supposed to talk much about it since it’s all very secretive inside, but if you know someone who is a member, I’d definitely see if you can go with them.  Some of the tricks that the magicians performed were mind-blowing, but we were falling asleep at 11pm because we were still on East Coast time and missed the main event.  Maybe next time!

On Saturday we went to the Santa Monica pier so Tricia and Jess could go to the LA trapeze school!  I’m terrified of heights, so there was no way I was going to do that, but I was their mom and took a bunch of pictures and videos while they were taking their 2 hour class.  Jess had previously taken a trapeze class in D.C. so she was already a pro.  Tricia had never taken a class and she ended up being able to do back flips and have the instructor successfully catch her.  I was so proud of both of them!

After the Santa Monica pier we went back to Tricia’s apartment in West Hollywood and got all dolled up for her birthday celebration by the Glam Squad.  I had never used the Glam Squared before, but hair and makeup artists come to your actual home or wherever you want them to meet you.  It’s way more convenient getting ready at your own place than having to spend 2 hours at a salon.  After we finished getting ready we went to dinner!  Tricia’s birthday dinner and celebration was at Estrella, an American bar and restaurant in West Hollywood.  Tricia had rented out the entire private area for her birthday and included an indoor area, outdoor area and private screening room!  She had an open bar, servers, amazing food and even a photo booth!  It was literally the most amazing birthday celebration.  She’s such an amazing friend and deserved the best 30th birthday.

On Sunday we had brunch at Church Key in West Hollywood and watched the Superbowl.  I was rooting for the Bronco’s so was happy they won!  Peyton Manning seems like a super nice guy and since it may be his last year before retirement, I was glad he won the Superbowl.  I flew back to Atlanta on Monday and was exhausted by the time I got home, but it was well worth the trip.  My friends mean the world to me and I’m so lucky to these lovely women in my life.

xx,

Lauren
