One of my best friends (and bridesmaids in my wedding), Jess visited Atlanta two weekends ago. We’re both obsessed with the CW drama, ‘The Vampire Diaries‘. The Vampire Diaries takes place in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. Mystic Falls is the real life town of Covington, Georgia, and is only 45 minutes away from Atlanta. So, I booked Jess and I tickets to tour the town of Covington and see where the Vampire Diaries films. The Vampire Diaries is in its last season (so sad) so we had to check out the tour before the last episode airs!
Covington, Georgia
Covington, Georgia is a quaint town with roots that date back to the early 1800’s. The town provides southern heritage and hospitality making it a great place to live and visit. Covington has been labeled as the ‘Hollywood of the South’ since many movies and tv shows have been filmed there including:
- Sweet Home Alabama
- My Cousin Vinny
- In The Heat Of The Night
- Remember The Titans
- The Dukes of Hazzard
- The Vampire Diaries
- The Originals….and many more!
The Vampire Diaries Tour
The Vampire Diaries tour is a family owned business. Jessica Lowery owns the Vampire Stalkers Tour, which includes tours of the Vampire Diaries and the Originals, a spin off drama of the Vampire Diaries. Jessica is great friends with the cast, especially Ian Somerhalder. She’s one lucky lady. When she’s not giving tours she works full-time for Ian’s charity, The Ian Somerhalder Foundation. In addition, she has a store in Covington that sells anything and everything the Vampire Diaries and the Originals that you’d ever want.
Jessica took us on a tour of downtown Mystic Falls (aka Covington, Georgia) and then to other places where the show is filmed. On the tour we saw The Mystic Grill, the Mystic Falls Courthouse, the Whitmore Campus and plenty of the homes where the show is filmed. One of the main attractions is the Lockwood Mansion, a beautiful historic home in the city of Covington. A couple lives there and is so kind and hospitable to let fans of the show see their house.
Rest of the Weekend
Saturday night after the Vampire Diaries tour, Jess and I went to dinner at Barcelona Bar in Inman Park. I invited a bunch of my girlfriends in Atlanta so Jess could meet them. Then on Sunday we had brunch at South City Kitchen in Midtown. It was such a fun girls weekend! I’m headed back to DC in a couple of weeks so I’ll see Jess and the rest of my girlfriends then!
