Labor Day weekend I visited Chicago with my three best friends, Tricia, Lindsay and Jess. The four of us live in different cities now, so we plan trips to visit one another, or we pick a destination. I live in Atlanta, Tricia lives in Los Angeles and Lindsay lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Jess used to live in Arlington, Virginia, but recently moved to Chicago. Since Jess just moved to Chicago, we wanted to visit her while the weather is nice.

Chicago Girls Weekend

Jess planned a jam packed weekend! Lindsay and Tricia arrived in Chicago Thursday evening and I got into town Friday night. Friday we grabbed dinner at Chicago q and watched an improv show at the Second City Comedy Show. Since its debut, the Second City has been a launching pad for comedians, actors, directors and others working in show business. Notable alumni include Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, John Candy, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Chris Farley, Bill Murray, Mike Myers, and so many more. My favorite female comedians, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler met and launched their careers at the Second City.

Saturday morning we went on the Wendella Architecture Boat Tour. My father is an architect, so I’ve grown up appreciating architecture, but even if you’re not that into architecture, the tour is a great way to learn about the history of Chicago. After the boat tour, we grabbed traditional Chicago style deep dish pizza at Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria. Saturday evening my sister-in-law Molly met up with us and we went to a distillery tour and had dinner at Beatrix.

Sunday we tried to go to a Cubs game since they were playing the Atlanta Braves. However, the tickets were too expensive since the Cubs just won the World Series. Instead we spent the day bar hopping in Wrigleyville, enjoying arcade games and indoor batting cages at Sluggers bar. Sunday evening we relaxed and Friday we departed Chicago to head home.
