Here are some tips and ideas for those single individuals, as well as for couples for a successful Valentine’s Day today.

I ventured to Grant Park and ate at Ria’s Bluebird, one of Atlanta’s staple restaurants. Ria’s Bluebird has been listed on multiple food blogs and publications as a must visit in Atlanta. Ria’s Bluebird has been on my long to-do list of Atlanta restaurants to try. The diner serves big portions of all-day breakfast including biscuits and rum-soaked French toast. However, Ria’s Bluebird is most famous for its pancakes.
Even though it was cold this past weekend at least it was sunny out. My weekend basics are jeans, t-shirts and a warm jacket. If you’re looking for go-to basics, the best basics store is American Apparel. Unfortunately (if you haven’t heard by now), American Apparel is bankrupt and closing all its brick and mortar stores. So sad!
I’m on the Executive Committee for PurSHOEing Justice, a local Atlanta fundraising event coming up in 2 weeks. PurSHOEing Justice benefits the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s (‘AVLF’) Safe Families Office, a local non-profit organization, which helps more than 1,800 survivors of intimate partner violence each year. This fabulous event is designed to raise awareness around the legal issues facing domestic violence survivors, their families, and the volunteers and programs who help them. The event will be held on Wednesday February 8, 2017 at King & Spalding in Midtown Atlanta.
As I said in my last 7 Charming Sisters post, I’ve been investing in statement accessories. Watches have become more like jewelry, rather than a tool to tell time. Nowadays women often use their smartphones to keep track of the time and their busy schedules. Therefore, watches are a great way to jazz up an otherwise boring outfit. This weekend I ran errands at the Atlanta Belt Line and wore casual leggings and a t-shirt. But, I felt that my outfit had an extra pop with my new JORD watch.
So one thing about me – I’m not the best with accessories. Two of my best friends have the best statement jewelry! Every time I visit them (one lives in Houston and the lives other is LA) I raid their jewelry stash for the weekend. Having the perfect earrings or necklace really takes an outfit from OK to fabulous. As a result, I’ve been on the hunt for some new fashion jewelry for my wardrobe. Luckily I found 7 Charming Sisters. 7 Charming Sisters has unique, affordable and quality statement jewelry. I’m wearing the “Strike a Pose” necklace and I love how it’s feminine with the rose gold, but also a little edgy with the pointy pyramid pendants. I also got the “Pave the Way” necklace because I’m super girly and this beautiful necklace will go with most of my wardrobe.
My husband and I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my family in Virginia and then we flew back home to Atlanta on Tuesday December 27. Then, on Wednesday December 28 we drove to Hilton Head to see his family. His mother and step-father live in Hilton Head and his sister flew in town from Chicago.
This past weekend my husband and I ran errands and did some Christmas shopping. I still cannot believe Christmas is in 1 week! On the weekends I live in comfy clothes. Since the weather in Atlanta is constantly changing, layering is very important. My new favorite sweatshirt is from Alternative Apparel.
The weather has turned to winter in Atlanta so I’m in full on hibernation mode. I’m not a huge fan of cold weather. Part of the reason my husband and I moved further south is because we are such babies when it comes to the cold. I don’t go outside unless I’m completely bundled, or else I’ll likely complain and annoy my poor husband.
My husband and I both work at consulting firms and have pretty hectic schedules during the week. We both need to dress business casual or business professional depending on the day since we have client-facing careers. My husband travels Monday through Thursday every week to his client site. I’m lucky and only have to travel occasionally. During the summer, my husband still needs to wear suits, which is unfortunate for him since its so hot out. Luckily being a woman I can get away with a blouse and pencil skirt. I’ve talked to my husband and we’ve both outlined our looks for styling professional in the office for these hot Atlanta summer days!
Being 5 foot 2 I always run into the issue of dresses or pants being too long for me or tops just not fitting right. The places I shop at most frequently like Loft, Ann Taylor or J Crew all have petite sections which make it easier to find clothes that fit my body. It’s really frustrating have to pay for the clothes at a retail store and then having to pay extra at a tailor to get it altered. I recently got a bridesmaid dress hemmed in Atlanta and all they did was shorten the dress and tighten the straps a bit and it was $160! Since I just got married myself, I understand that weddings are expensive, but that seemed a little ridiculous in my opinion for minor alterations. I’m always on the lookout for new companies that specialize in petite clothing so I don’t have to deal with having to pay extra at a tailor.
Saturday night I had a girls night. My husband was out of town visiting friends in NYC so I had our place all to myself. When we moved to Atlanta I was worried about making new friends. Most of my friends are in the Virginia and the D.C. area. Jeremy is lucky because a lot of his friends from business school moved to Atlanta. I love all his friends but they are mostly guys. I need girl time sometimes. Luckily I’ve met so many great girls here. I have a great group of girls at work and I’ve met some others through a few degrees of separation. It was fun to relax on Saturday, drink wine and get to know one another better.
